Low cost airlines, are we walking?

Departure day!  Of course, all kinds of things to do.  Dan has a full agenda and we got a delivery of some new patio chairs, he is in charge of picking up the rental car since I won’t be home until 2PM. After multiple calls the furniture finally arrives at 2:15, Dan is able to get the rental car, we do a car shuttle to bring his car home, one last trip to the bank, finish packing odds and ends and we leave for LAX. Should be fine. The flight leaves at 9:40pm, except for traffic.  Spend 10 minutes trying to find the gas tank release. That information should be mandatory when you rent a car, why is it always a challenge?  Finally at the airport and actually have to ask where the check in gates are? Not marked!! Upstairs and check in at Level.  Ever hear of the airline?  I booked an American flight...

Okay we are 70 minutes to departure. So much for leaving home early. Grab an over priced sandwich, water and Diet Coke and off to the gate. We continue the hike to a terminal that had to be the first built at LAX. Get to the gate as first boarding is called. A quick peak out the window because we are on ground level after the hike to the gate. Low cost air means we take a bus....  buses transport us to the other side on LAX. Good news there is a plane there.  I guess when you are low cost you are housed way away from all the other terminals. We are off.  Only 15minutes late. Settled in for the non stop to Barcelona 😃

I unpack the sandwich we are set to go.  New age of technology since no food on the plane you can order off the electronic menu attached to the movie screen at your seat. A video is shown for safety, pretty soon there will be no flight attendants alas I digress.  We finish our food not sure what meal it will be since it is now 10:30pm no dinner and we are in Spain at 6:30 pm tomorrow. Nevertheless we finish and the flight attendant comes by with dinner and wine and says it is complementary.  Maybe just the wine save the bread for “breakfast “ in 6 hours    We will be in Spain soon....

It's all Gina's fault!

Every now and then you are blessed by knowing or being acquainted with a special person.  This person will often encourage you to do something crazy, buy something you don't need or tell you the airlines are having a terrific sale and you should really think about planning a trip.  Even if you have been away from home 18-20 weeks the prior year.  They will even help you surf the internet to find a bargain basement fare and tell you reasons that "you just really NEED to go".

This special person in my life is my daughter- in- law "Gina".  I am not sure if she will continue to be a special person to Dan since I usually include him in our latest "trip adventures", but she is the mother of the grandkids so her status will probably be maintained but she may be banned from internet surfing great ideas for trips with me in the future. 

Back to Why Spain?  Bargain basement airfares, and it seemed like the warmest option in early Spring.  Of course, when I am done with tickets, baggage fees, seat fees and most likely meal fees probably not so bargain basement but it is a new adventure and our next trip isn't until June, which would mean no traveling for 9 months.

So if you are reading this, yeah!!  Setting up the blog early was a great idea and will allow me to get all the bugs out and we are not even at the airport.  A first for most of our traveling.
